Either side can cancel a request before it is accepted, at no cost. After acceptance, cancel through the booking page and tell the other person — because no money has changed hands on the platform, any refund of a deposit already paid is between the two of you.
You are responsible for the item while it is with you. Photograph its condition at handover — both of you confirm the handover in the app, and that record is what you will have to point at if something is disputed.
